Piano Renzo

Renzo Piano was born in Genoa, Italy on 14th September, 1937.  His grandfater, father, uncles and brothers were all contractors; however, he decides to become an architect.  He studies at Milan Politechnic Architecture School.  After he graduated the school in 1964, he started aorking in his father's comapny.  Then from 1965 to 1970, he worked at Louis Kahn's company as well as Z. S. Mackowsky's company.  In 1971, he starts working with Richard Rogers who is one of those people who highly influenced Piano.  However, the most influencial person for Piano was Jean Prouve who was self-taught French architect.  In 1980, he founded Renzo Piano Building Workshop.  In 1984, he designs Olivetti Office Buildiing in Italy.  Then three years later, in 1987, he designs Menil Collection Museum in the US.  In 1990, he design the field for World Cup Championship.  In the following year, he designs Housing in Rue de Meaux in Paris.  Then between 1988 to 1994, he designs Kansai International Airport in Osaka, Japan.

  • The Royal Gold Medal for Architecture by the Royal Institute of British Architecture

  • The Praemium Imperiale Prize for Architecture from The Japan Art Association
