Research the Need:

For people who drink tea every day, it might give you hard time finding the perfect one for your daily life.  I am one of those people who like to drink tea in the morning and I find it that the packaging box need to be improved for better and more relaxing mornings.  There are three things I wish to be changed in the tea packaging: taking up space, difficulty taking tea bags out and difficulty predicting flavors.  Since I want to promote my product to women with age of 20 to 30 years old, I would mostly focus on keywords such as healthy, organic, detox, relaxing and deals.    Also, those women tend to be attracted to packaging with promotional tones.

        I have decided to design a tea bag packaging for Indian tea, Chai because I have heard that it is very beneficial for your body since it contains many spices.  For example, ginger is good for blood circulation and digestion.   I thought that the characteristics Chai has are very approaching to my target audiences, women who are at the age of 20 to 30.  I found out that to those women, it is more effective to sell the products in promotional tone, so I used sheriff font for typography and included keywords which are mostly focused on your healthy diet.  Recently, especially women are mostly concerned about their body features and their health.  As a result, I chose to introduce more natural impression to the consumers which lead to using image of wooden pieces as a background.  Moreover, since my target audiences are adults, I thought it would be more visually appealing to those if the design is chic and sophisticated.  Thus, I chose burgundy color and light brown on top which resembles gold.  Furthermore, since I have tea every morning, there are few inconveniences I have noticed.  It has always been one of the concerns for me that it takes quite a space.  By using this template, you can hang it on the wall to prevent it from taking up space.   Other concerns are that it is difficult to predict the flavor of the tea as well as inconvenience of taking out the tea bags.  Prediction of the flavor would be easier due to effective use of images.  Putting star anise-like graphics and the image of the tea are one of the examples.  Also, in order to allow people to take out the tea bags easier, I have decided to make the opening at the bottom of the packaging.  

Redesign:

            If I were given another opportunity to redesign this packaging, there are few things I would change about the design.  Firstly, I would put more graphics that allow consumers easier to predict the flavor.  For example, putting the image of cinnamon sticks and orange next to the cup can be effective.   This was more challenging for me than I expected because I thought that putting too many images can be destructing and unsophisticated.  Secondly, I believe use of colors can be improved.  Using burgundy and gold colors might limit the season you can sell it since it creates impression of fall and winter time.  Also, those colors do not look effective when you want to associate the product with the idea of organic and healthiness.  Moreover, using more effective colors for typography would make it easier to be read.  Lastly, I would emphasize what I am selling to the target audiences.  The most important elements of the product are that it is healthy, detoxing and organic.  However, I put those keywords on the side which is not effective to catch consumers’ attention.  In order to prevent such situation, I would put those keywords on the front for greater effectiveness.
